The Urushi Genome Project
Urushi is a Japanese traditional lacquer for finishing products such as tableware. Although over 90% of urushi in Japan is currently imported from China, returning to Japanese urushi is an upward trend. We sequence the genome and transcriptome of urushi tree (Toxicodendron vernicifluum), elucidating the nature of urushi synthesis.
