The idea that 'language reflects the mind' forms the foundation of my research, which draws on my background as a registered nurse in an English-speaking country and encompasses the study of the multidisciplinary approach in the healthcare field and the differences in conceptualizations underlying the use of specialized terminology among healthcare professionals.

『言語は心を映し出す』という考えが私の研究の基盤を形成しており、英語圏での正看護師としての経歴を生かしながら、医療分野における多職種連携アプローチの研究や、医療従事者の間で専門用語を使用する際の根底にある概念の違いの研究を網羅しています。

研究の特徴?内容

My research investigates the conceptualizations of chest pain and heart failure by two professional groups—doctors and nurses—within the cardiology field. This study examines interdisciplinary approaches in healthcare and explores the differences in conceptualization that underlie the use of specialized terminology among health professionals. Specifically, I plan to focus on research questions such as the extent to which the repertoires of cardiac terminology used by doctors and nurses converge and to add data from the next 10 years to the existing synchronic corpus to advance research into a diachronic corpus. I hypothesize that doctors and nurses conceptualize these conditions differently. To support this hypothesis, I adopt Temmerman's (2000) sociocognitive terminology approach as my theoretical framework and employ Corpus linguistics to conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses. By analyzing the associations between heteronyms prevalent in the medical terminology as intracategorial relations, I aim to derive hidden relationships between terms. Additionally, by observing broader intercategorial relations, I seek to interpret domain indications and other relevant insights.

私の研究では、心臓病学の分野における 2つの専門グループ (医師と看護師) によるchest pain(胸痛)とheart failure(心不全)の概念化を調査しています。これらの研究は、医療分野における多職種連携アプローチの調査を網羅し、医療専門家の間で専門用語の使用の根底にある概念化の違いを探ります。具体的には、医師と看護師が使用する循環器系用語のレパートリーはどの程度収束しているかなどの研究課題に焦点を当て、これまでの共時コーパスに10年後のデータを追加し、通時コーパスとしての研究を進めていく計画です。私は、医師と看護師がこれらの状態を異なる方法で概念化しているという仮説を立てています。この仮説を裏付けるために、私は理論的枠組みとして Temmerman (2000) のsociocognitive terminology approach (社会認知用語アプローチ)を採用し、コーパス言語学を使用して量的質的分析を実施します。用語によく見られるheteronyms間の関連性をカテゴリ内の関係として分析することで、用語間の関係を導き出すことを目指します。さらに、より広範なカテゴリ間の関係を観察することで、ドメインの兆候やその他の関連する洞察を解釈しようとします。

I am currently exploring other fields where we can conduct comparative research on terminology across different organ systems. The cardiovascular system is closely related to organs such as renal medicine, and a special corpus comparative study from a linguistic perspective would be an interesting research topic.
